Smart & efficient – Ceramill CAD/CAM nesting concept for Multilayer resins & zirconias

The sophisticated nesting concept within the Ceramill workflow makes it possible to cover two Vita shades with only one Multilayer blank. This applies to both Ceramill A-Temp Multilayer resin as well as Zolid FX Multilayer zirconia. However, there are a few things to take into consideration to obtain the perfect shade result. The correct size is most important here!

The correct selection of the blank height in relation to the restoration height is decisive for an optimal shade gradient over the entire restoration. Under no circumstances should too low restorations be nested in too high blanks and vice versa, as otherwise the correct shade and a beautiful shade gradient of the restoration can no longer be guaranteed (Fig. 3).

To achieve the desired result, it is necessary to follow a straightforward workflow. When nesting, the blank should be divided virtually into four horizontal layers and the restoration should be able to be moved up or down by max. 1/4 (Fig. 2) If the restoration is then positioned in the upper or lower area, this ensures obtaining the lighter or darker tooth shade. Therefore, the appropriate blank height should be selected depending on the restoration height. Approximate guide values are given for orientation purposes (Fig. 4).

Nesting in the CAM software can additionally be facilitated by using the Ceramill Trusmile software module. The Ceramill Trusmile visualizes restorations with a natural shade gradient and displays them in the CAD and CAM software similar to the finished denture.
